Identification Signals

Generally, before the opening of each transmission, the international shortwave broadcasters transmit a brief signal, the so-called identification signal, that aids the listener to identify the station being tuned. The identification signal is typically "musical", that facilites the identificarion even when the station is not clearly heard due to propagation disturbances. It can be generated electronically, or be composed of simple musical notes, or even use parts of instrumental musics. Sometimes, there is a voice speaking the station's name.

Below are presented audio records of identification signals used by some shortwave stations. The audio quality can be no much good, because the audio was recorded directly from the transmissions being tuned, including distortions as noise, interference, fading.

To listening to each identification signal, click over the station's name. The audio files are in the Real Audio format. These files are opened by using Real Player®, that can be downloaded from the site www.real.com. (there are different versions fow Windows, Linux, and other operating systems).
