High Frequency Broadcasting Bands

The shortwave radio corresponds to those frequencies between 3 and 30 MHz, the high frequency spectrum. Different services are allocated at different frequency ranges. For instance, for international broadcasting a number of broadcasting bands were assigned. The table below shows the actual allocation of the high frequency broadcasting bands.

 Meter band   kHz band
120 2300 - 2495
90 3200 - 3400
75 3900 - 4000
60 4750 - 5060
49 5950 - 6200
41 7100 - 7300
31 9500 - 9900
2511650 - 12050
2213600 - 13800
1915100 - 15600
1617550 - 17900
1321450 - 21850
1125600 - 26100

In 1992, during a conference of the ITU (WARC-92), were allocated bands to complement HF bands yet existing (with the exception of the 15-meter band, that is entirely new). These new bands, shown below, only are allocated officialy for use by HF broadcasting stations in 2007.

 Meter band   kHz band
49 5900 - 5950
41 7300 - 7350
31 9400 - 9500
2511600 - 11650
2512050 - 12100
2213570 - 13600
2213800 - 13870
1915600 - 15800
1617480 - 17550
1518900 - 19020

However, it doesn't imply that the stations use only the allocated bands, since several stations are transmitting in out-of-band frequencies.
